This project responded to Bertolt Brecht’s ideas of cathartic theatre, aiming to remain objective and distant from emotional involvement. My interpretation and response of the idea was the concept of dreams. Montage, narration, sound, coding technology, video and gestures were all used to convey the succession of images, ideas, emotions, and sensations that occur involuntarily in the mind during certain stages of sleep. This psychological space where overwhelming, contradictory, incohesive or complex notions are brought together by the dreaming ego displays unconscious mental function in a psychoanalytic way which can be interpreted with objectivity and be seen with the absence of empathy in certain cases.

dr34m5’ aimed to represent dream space in which the lack of control over the content, visual images and activation of an individual’s memory are triggered. This creates a novel “reality” out of seemingly nothing, producing an experience that is meant to have the viewer remain objective and separated from the actual dream, and see it as an interpretation of the concept rather than be invested in the meaning or emotional content of the dream.
